To discover north Kerry is to delve into the beating heart of the Irish psyche. It was here, in the market town of Listowel, and its surrounding hinterland, that so much of Ireland’s greatest writing rose from.

Titled the literary capital of Ireland, Listowel has long been renowned for its abundance of literary genius. Writers such as John B Keane, Bryan MacMahon, George Fitzmaurice, Brendan Kennelly and Maurice Walsh; writers whose work has adorned stages in Broadway…. and all over the world. To meet their work, their thoughts, their words, is to meet head on all that’s triumphant, all that’s tragic of an often terrible Irish beauty. Though their words and inspirations were drawn from the towns and villages of north Kerry; their humour, romance and tragedy plucks a stirring universal chord.

Located in the heart of Listowel the Seanchai presents the works of these great Kerry writers in an audio visual feast for the mind and the soul. The words of the writers will make you laugh and cry, but above all you will come away from your visit to Seanchaí with a sense of the people and places that shaped north Kerry’s literary genius.
